Finlayson Island

This popular hiking/cross country skiing destination is an island in the North Saskatchewan River. Accessed by the Battleford's signature arched bridges, Finlayson Island has many kilometers of mowed walking trails that become groomed ski trails by winter. The home of the Kiwanis Nature Trail.

The Island was named, in 1964 by the Government of Saskatchewan, in honor of Donald (Dan) Matheson Finlayson. Dan homesteaded in the Battle River Valley and was an innovative farmer until his homestead was burned out during the Rebellion. He served as Member of Parliament from 1908 until 1934.
