Each summer the City offers a free playground program for children from 6 to 12 years. The program is supervised by trained play leaders and is offered at 4 different locations. Children aged 5 and under should be accompanied by a responsible guardian.
The program runs during July and August. Features of the program are daily planned activities supplemented with a variety of special events such as the Cookie Carnival, evening cookouts and participation in the territorial day parade. All sites are equipped with shelters for inclement weather and washroom facilities. Hours do tend to vary from year to year so parents are encouraged to watch for information that comes home with your child from school in June or check at the playgrounds for hours.
The four program sites are:
- 1. CENTENNIAL PARK
- Located behind Beaver Lions Stadium. This playground is situated in Centennial Park and has access to lots of open space, playground equipment, swings as well as an inground paddling pool.
- 2. KINSMEN PARK
- 18th Ave. and 94th St. This playground is situated in the older part of Kinsmen park. The area has many mature trees which provide attractive shade for parents on a hot summer afternoon. This site features a newly constructed spray pool, partial handicap accessible play equipment and swings.
- 3. FAIRVIEW PLAYGROUND
- 2571 Ross Cres. This playground makes use of open space and innovating programming ideas to provide a quality program for the children.
- 4. CONNAUGHT SCHOOL SITE
- 902 107th St. This playground makes use of Connaught schoolyard for their program. They have access to playground equipment, an outdoor basketball area and plenty of open space.
Watch for the SPECIAL EVENTS offered throughout the summer at the playgrounds, including the family activities.
