Mandate/History of the Chapel Gallery (facility)

The Chapel Gallery is a facility with a special focus on the visual arts in the Battlefords area. Through art exhibitions, special events and education programs the Chapel Gallery strives to encourage artistic growth and appreciation.

Among art galleries the Chapel is unique not only in design but also in setting. The west-facing patio affords a view of the North Saskatchewan River Valley that is unsurpassed. The building was converted from a chapel in 1986 to a gallery without losing any of its architectural beauty and atmosphere of serenity. This facility, the third for the City of North Battleford's art collection was officially opened June 9th, 1987. Named the Chapel Gallery in deference to the buildings spiritual past, it is dedicated to being the finest possible showcase for the arts in this community.

Visit the Chapel Gallery Labyrinths

Labyrinths have existed as symbols in virtually every period of history and in most cultural communities. Their loops within quadrants represent the seasons and the geometry corresponds with lunar and solar cycles. Unlike a maze, a labyrinth path takes you to the centre and back with no dead ends and its purpose is to relax and invigorate your mind and body from the inside out as well as from the outside in. Some say walking a labyrinth becomes a metaphor for their lives – those who rush to the center and back out may realize they tend to rush through life where others find themselves focusing on or solving a problem.

No matter what the purpose each individual may have, the labyrinths are beautiful earth sculptures that are as pleasing to the eye as they may be to the soul.

WE HOPE YOU ENJOY YOUR WALK THROUGH THE LABYRINTHS
